Welcome!

I am an escapist by nature and a Truth Seeker by calling. This is why I read and write fiction.

Fiction mirrors truth. This phrase invokes much of who I am and why I am this way: my life is enriched by fiction--my heart is challenged and changed by Truth.

My bookshelf is a collection of diversity. While the classics of Milton, Shakespeare, Austen, Coleridge, and Lewis each hold a place of honor, they share space with more modern heroes of prose like Tosca Lee, J.K. Rowling, Kristen Heitzmann, and Stephen King. Throughout my home titles by Christian authors snuggle up next to books which have been banned or burned by religious nutballs. That's just who I am. Deal. Fiction MIRRORS truth, boys and girls; and sometimes the truth is ugly... or illumines our own ugliness.

Often subtle, and sometimes sweet, Truth can be harsh and painful to digest; yet it is the human experience of seeking which exposes our need for something more--something beyond the limits of our own world.

This is me. Without a mask. Reading and writing fiction. Learning the craft, pursuing excellence..

Thanks for visiting my blog. I welcome your comments.

May the One who is Truth guide your heart through the many worlds of words yet to be discovered.

About Me

S. R. Van Ness
I take my coffee seriously, preferring it hot and made by a professional. And when I take it, I prefer to be either reading a book or writing one. I am primarily a fiction novelist. With three(!) --yes, three, now! -- completed novels (in various stages of the re-writing and editing phases) and several other works-in-progress, I end up spending most of my time with imaginary people in imaginary places making horrible things happen within their imaginary lives. When I'm not doing that, I'm sleeping. Or making more coffee. But enough about me.... Thanks for visiting my blog. Now go read a book or something!

Awesome Header Design

For those of you who regularly follow my blog, you might have noticed some AWESOME changes to its design; namely, the reflective FMT logo above. These changes came as a result of the incredible design talent of my friends at JG Designs in Manhattan, Kansas.

Jodie Gerling's intuitive design skill and attention to a client's needs and preferences is beyond compare. If you like the Fiction Mirrors Truth logo above (and really--how could you not?!) I encourage you to click on the link above and make sure you mention me or this blog!
